What synergies can be created when Son Heung-min (31-Tottenham) and an attacking soccer believer meet.
English professional soccer club 메이저사이트 Tottenham is ready to appoint current Feyenoord (Netherlands) coach Arne Slott (45) as its new head coach next season, local media including Football Insider reported on Thursday.
Slott is a coach who favors offensive tactics and is considered to be the right person to change Tottenham’s tactics, which have been focused on defense. Unlike previous Tottenham managers, it will be interesting to see if he can maximize Son Heung-min’s offensive potential by taking the defensive burden off of him.
The Dutchman rose to prominence after leading AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands) to a runner-up finish in the 2019-2020 season, his first year in charge. He took over the reins at Feyenoord in the 2021-2022 season and led the club to a runner-up finish in the UEFA Europa Conference that year. This season, his leadership was clearly recognized as he led Feyenoord to their first league title in six years.
According to Football Insider, Spurs are willing to pay a hefty penalty fee to Feyenoord to keep Slott. Slott’s contract with Feyenoord runs until 2026 and the penalty is reportedly £6 million. “Chairman Daniel Levy will also hand Slott full control over player recruitment,” according to Football Insider.
Slott’s arrival is expected to completely change Tottenham’s tactics, which have traditionally been based on a “defend first, attack later” approach.
Known to be a big fan of Manchester City (England) manager Pep Guardiola, Slott favors an attacking style of play. Aggressive forward pressing, passing, and constant switching are key to his tactics.
Slott is also known to require his goalkeepers to be able to build up and deliver quality passes straight to the midfield. This is why he has been described as the most aggressive manager since Johan Cruyff, who was a ‘total soccer’ coach and led Ajax (Netherlands) to their glory days in the 1980s.
With Slott at the helm of Tottenham, Son’s attacking prowess is likely to be multiplied. In addition to the orbital fracture he suffered just before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Son’s goals dropped significantly from last season, when he became the first Asian player to score in the EPL, due to Antonio Conte’s instructions to play more defensively and the overlap with attack-minded wing-back Ivan Perisic.
